Cool Hand Luke was directed by Stuart Rosenburg in 1967 and stars Paul Newman.  It won and Oscar and a Golden Laurel, and was nominated for many other awards.
Cool Hand Luke is the moving character study of a non-conformist, anti-hero loner who bullheadedly resists authority and the Establishment. One of the film's posters carried a tagline related to the character's rebelliousness: "The man...and the motion picture that simply do not conform." With this vivid film, director Stuart Rosenberg made one of the key films of the 1960s, a decade in which protest against established powers was a key theme. One line of the film's dialogue from Strother Martin is often quoted: "What we have here is...failure to communicate."

Feel free to bring snacks and drinks and join us for a great movie and
discussion afterwards!

Workshop
When: Tuesday, 24 November. 11:00 AM
Where: Honors Lounge
Presented by: Michael Kerrigan

What do opera, the pipe organ, the steam engine, and beer all have in common?  They were invented over 1500 years ago by people who wore togas and declined all their nouns.  This workshop will survey various interesting inventions from centuries ago, and provide insight into how they affect our modern world.  We'll also discuss some cultural reasons for why ancient Greeks weren't driving around in trains or playing organ music.
